Server Hardware
File and Print Server
File and print servers are often the first servers to be put in place in a networked system. In computing, a file server is a computer attached to a network that has the primary purpose of providing a location for the shared storage of computer files (such as documents, sound files, photographs, movies, images, databases, et cetera) that can be accessed by the workstations that are attached to the computer network.
E-Mail Server
Email is an essential tool, and that makes the mail server an essential piece of software. The email server needs to be flexible and fast, it needs to support ten or ten million users, and most of all it needs to be reliable.
Application Server
An application server handles most, if not all, of the business logic and data access of the application. The main benefit of an application server is the ease of application development, since applications need not be programmed; instead, they are assembled from building blocks provided by the application server. For example, a Wiki is an application server that allows users to build dynamic content assembled from articles. The articles are stored in a filesystem, and changes to the articles stored in a database. An example of an assembled wiki is Wikipedia, an application server that delivers an encyclopedia.
Web Server
A computer program that is responsible for accepting HTTP requests from web clients, which are known as web browsers, and serving them HTTP responses along with optional data contents, which usually are web pages such as HTML documents and linked objects (images, etc.).
Intranet Server
An intranet is a private computer network that uses Internet protocols and network connectivity to securely share part of an organization's information or operations with its employees. Sometimes the term refers only to the most visible service, the internal website. The same concepts and technologies of the Internet such as clients and servers running on the Internet protocol suite are used to build an intranet.
Storage Server
Storage servers are normally individual units. A storage server has at least six disks, usually 12 to 24 disks. In many cases, they come with a host of specialized services, this can include storage management software, extra hardware for higher resilience, a range of RAID configurations and extra network connections to enable more users to be connected to it.
Used Servers
Used Servers Available: Save money in this economy, a $500, $1000 or $3000 dollar investment in a used server could pay for itself in months rather than years!
